Ruby Morales

RUBY'S BIO

Ruby Morales is a dance artivist investigating culturally informed teaching methods as well as her relationship with movement as a bgirl and Mexican influenced cumbia Sonidera. After receiving a BFA from Arizona State University she completed Urban Bush Women's Summer Leadership Institute, PISAB's Undoing Racism Training, and trained in breaking with b-boy House, Ervin Arana, and b-boy Stuntman as well as hip-hop philosophy and theory with b-boy YNOT. She’s currently working with Liz Lerman, CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Theatre, Safos Dance Theatre and works with Tucson based artist Yvonne Montoya. She recently premiered her solo work "Café con Leche" and Arizona Commission on the Arts grant funded evening length show, “Breakin’ Pachanga”.

What is at the core of your work?

Reciprocity. Understanding to say yes to myself creatively and to my lived experiences as a Mexican woman, first generation American, and progressive thought provoker.

What do you believe your role is an artist?

To show people that they are felt, seen, and heard.

To uncover our possibilities as a people, our relationship to one another, and our relationship to the land.

To make a dream feel possible.
